LaBoîte integrates AI into SMEs in Grenoble and across Isère: engineering consultancies, industrial subcontractors, software publishers. We do not do research or train models: we choose Claude or ChatGPT, connect them to your documents and tools, protect your know-how and train your teams.
Few French cities talk about artificial intelligence as much as Grenoble. In May 2024, the Agence nationale de la recherche (the French national research agency) selected the MIAI Cluster, led by Université Grenoble Alpes, as one of France 2030's nine AI Clusters. On the Presqu’île, the GIANT campus brings together eight partners, including the CEA, the CNRS and Grenoble INP.
That proximity does not answer an SME manager’s question: what can we do on Monday morning with the tools available? Our AI integration service answers that one. Our web agency in Grenoble page presents the rest of our work in the area.
Do you need a research project to use AI in an SME?
No. The useful applications for an SME rely on existing models, available through a business subscription or an API, and on a sound connection to your documents.
Minalogic, the digital technology competitiveness cluster with 380 member companies, classes artificial intelligence among its cross-cutting technologies, alongside cybersecurity and the IoT. In other words, AI is becoming one building block among others rather than a separate undertaking.
For a company that designs sensors or machines parts, the gain rarely lies in a custom model. It lies in a tender response prepared faster, the procedure found without searching three servers, the service report tidied up. Most of the time there is no need to train anything: the tool reads your files when it is asked a question and cites the passage it relied on.
Which uses for an engineering consultancy or an industrial subcontractor?
The ones surrounding the technical work without replacing it: summarising specifications, outlining replies, searching past projects, formatting reports. The engineer validates every figure.
According to Grenoble Alpes Métropole, the Grenoble area is the most industrial in France: 21 % of private-sector employees work in industry there, more than 50,000 jobs. Behind the big names, many SMEs answer demanding clients, with long files and tight deadlines.
- Engineering consultancy: a first draft of the technical proposal from past projects, reworked by the project manager, in line with an offer that is easy to understand
- Microelectronics subcontractor: finding a procedure or the right version of a data sheet in the quality database
- Industrial maintenance: reports dictated in the field, then formatted and filed
- Sales team: a summary of a call for tenders and the list of documents to supply
How do you protect your know-how and your clients' drawings?
By deciding, before any trial, what may go into the tool, under which contract and with which hosting. For the most sensitive information, the CNIL considers on-premises deployment generally safer.
In its questions and answers on generative AI, the CNIL, France’s data protection regulator, considers that for personal or sensitive data an on-premises deployment is generally more appropriate and more secure, and that external hosting requires a data processing agreement. It also advises involving the data protection officer where there is one.
In practice, we sort your documents into three families: those that can go through an online business plan, those that need controlled hosting, and those that never leave, such as drawings covered by a non-disclosure agreement. By default, neither Anthropic’s commercial offerings nor the OpenAI API train on your data; that does not spare you from rereading what your own client contracts allow.
Software publishers and Inovallée start-ups: which connections?
Customer support and product documentation first, through the API, with a handover to a person. AI inside the product itself comes later, with its own obligations.
Inovallée, the technology park in Meylan and Montbonnot, counts more than 350 companies, from software to medtech by way of AI and the IoT. For a software publisher, the tool first helps the team: answering tickets from the documentation, preparing release notes, summarising user feedback.
As soon as an assistant talks directly to customers, the EU AI Act comes into play: since 2 August 2026, its Article 50 requires that people know they are interacting with an AI system. Our comparison Claude or ChatGPT for business helps you choose the model; for a broader internal tool, our apps and software offer weighs custom software against an off-the-shelf product.
What public support is there for an SME in Isère?
The national IA Booster France 2030 programme, run by Bpifrance, supports small and mid-sized companies from awareness through to experimentation. Check the current conditions on the official pages.
At its launch, the Direction générale des Entreprises presented a four-phase path: self-assessment and online training, a data diagnosis, help choosing a solution, and support for deployment. Companies with 10 to 2,000 employees had priority. We do not operate this scheme; our audit can, however, help prepare an application, then put the chosen solution into practice.
How does the engagement unfold, from audit to follow-up?
In short, approved steps: an on-site audit, side-by-side trials, connection, training, then adjustments after a few weeks of real use. We come from Chambéry for the stages that happen in the workshop or the design office.
We test Claude and ChatGPT on your own questions, trick questions included, and keep the one that cites its sources without embroidering. Connecting the document base, the CRM or the messaging goes through our automation and tools offer, read-only to begin with; our guide on what to automate in your business explains how we rank the candidates.
Training follows one CNIL instruction: never reuse the outputs of these tools as they stand. Every technician learns to open the cited source before using an answer, and every manager knows whom to report an error to.
Frequently asked questions
Do you work with Grenoble’s research labs?
No, and that is not our role. We support businesses in using existing tools; AI research is the domain of laboratories and institutes such as the MIAI Cluster.
Can we keep our most sensitive documents out of online tools?
Yes, and it is often the simplest decision. The audit classifies your documents one by one; those that must not leave stay outside the scope, and we present hosting options when a use justifies it.
Does all our staff need training?
Everyone who uses the tool, to different degrees. The EU AI Act asks for measures suited to each person’s knowledge and context, without requiring a certificate.
Do you travel to the Grésivaudan valley?
Yes, as across the whole urban area, for the audit and the workshops. The rest moves forward by video call, with regular check-ins.
